Legally named Helicopter Flight Services Inc., HeliNY has been flying tourists over Manhattan since 1994 and is today the largest sightseeing helicopter operator in the NYC metro region. The company runs roughly 200 flights a week and carries 78,000 passengers a year on a fleet of Bell 407GX and Bell 407GXi machines. In November 2025 HeliNY became the first NYC operator to hold a TOPS certification, and a month later the first JRB-based operator to earn WYVERN Wingman status — together the two most demanding third-party safety audits in commercial helicopter sightseeing. Departures run from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport (JRB) seven days a week for short tours, and from Linden Airport (LDJ) in New Jersey for sunset, fall foliage and longer scenic flights. Tour briefings are available in nine languages.

Does HeliNY include the heliport fee in the booking price?
No. HeliNY charges a flat $45 per person at check-in for tours from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport — that combines the $40 facility fee and a $5 fuel surcharge. The fee is not included in the price you see on GetYourGuide, Tiqets, Headout or Viator. Departures from Linden Airport (LDJ) in New Jersey do not have this fee — sunset, fall foliage and longer scenic tours from Linden are priced inclusive.
Can I fly HeliNY on a Sunday?
Yes — but only from Linden Airport (LDJ) in New Jersey, not from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport. The Manhattan heliport is closed for sightseeing flights on Sundays (FAA noise-abatement rules), so HeliNY runs the sunset tour, fall foliage tour and the longer proposal charters from Linden seven days a week. Linden is about 45 to 60 minutes by car from Midtown Manhattan, with free on-site parking.
How does HeliNY handle the weight limit?
HeliNY weighs every passenger at check-in (Bell 407 weight-and-balance is strict). The standard per-seat limit is 250 lb / 113 kg. Above that you need a Comfort Seat — an extra seat purchased to keep the cabin centre-of-gravity in spec. The Comfort Seat surcharge runs $99 for the 12–15 min tour, $149 for the 20 min tour and $249 for the Grand Tour. If you are close to the limit, book the Comfort Seat in advance — at check-in it costs more and may not be available on a full flight. Children under 2 fly free on a parent's lap if combined weight stays under the seat limit.
What do TOPS and WYVERN certifications actually mean?
Both are voluntary third-party safety audits stricter than the FAA baseline. TOPS (Tour Operators Program of Safety) reviews tour operations, training, maintenance and crew rest cycles annually. WYVERN Wingman audits go further: financial stability, pilot experience minimums, equipment age limits and SMS (Safety Management System) maturity. Corporate aviation departments (Fortune 500 charter desks) use these audits to decide which operators they will fly executives with. HeliNY holding both is industry-standard rare in NYC sightseeing — most local operators hold one or neither.
Do I need ID for a HeliNY flight?
Yes — government-issued photo ID for every passenger, including children. Passport, driver's license, national ID card or a US state-issued ID are all accepted. HeliNY checks IDs against the booking name at the heliport; mismatches (typos, nicknames, married vs. maiden) usually clear at check-in but bring confirmation. Without ID the operator can refuse boarding with no refund — TSA-style policy enforced by the heliport, not by HeliNY itself.
