Linden Airport is roughly 35 minutes by car from Lower Manhattan via the Holland Tunnel and the New Jersey Turnpike — Uber/Lyft typically run $55–$80 one way. Essex County (Fairfield) is about 45 minutes from Midtown via the Lincoln Tunnel and Route 280. Both heliports have free on-site parking if you drive. Public transport is not practical — neither heliport is close to a train station. Plan on arriving 30 minutes before your scheduled departure.
Yes — and that is the whole point. Manhattan is one of the most heavily lit skylines in the world. The Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and One World Trade Center are floodlit at night, the bridges are outlined in white, and Times Square produces enough light to be visible from the Hudson. Cameras on smartphones from 2023 onwards (iPhone 15+, Pixel 8+, Galaxy S23+) capture the lit skyline cleanly through the cabin windows — older phones tend to produce noise. Reflections from the cabin glass are the main limit; tap the window to reduce them, or shoot through the windshield from the front seat.
The Grand Tour route is long and fuel-heavy, so two operators only fly a Bell 407 or AS350 once all six seats earn revenue: Zip Aviation (Grand Island Tour) and Manhattan Helicopters (VIP) both enforce a four-passenger minimum. Book as a pair and you either get combined with other guests or the operator reschedules you. HeliNY Deluxe Tour (Downtown Manhattan departure) and Charm Aviation Empire Tour have no such minimum and depart on time even with two passengers — pick one of those for a guaranteed slot. Most operators have a 275 lb / 125 kg per-person limit. HeliNY is stricter at 250 lb / 113 kg on its Bell 407 fleet. Above the limit, you need a "comfort seat" or extra seat (surcharges vary: HeliNY $99 / $149 / $249, other operators typically $99–$150). HeliNY weighs all passengers at check-in and assigns seats by weight for flight balance.
Closed-toe shoes are required for safety. In summer: light clothing plus a light jacket (the cabin is air-conditioned). In winter: layers and a scarf. Avoid hats or loose accessories near the rotor area — they can become projectiles. Sunglasses are strongly recommended for daytime flights.
