NYC Operator · Tier 1
Charm Aviation
USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice 2026: Top-5 helicopter tour in America (#4) — after #3 in 2025. Family-run, customer-favourite, no 4-passenger minimums.
The customer-favourite NYC operator
Charm Aviation is family-run and built its reputation on customer service rather than aggressive marketing. In the USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice Awards 2026 Charm placed #4 in the helicopter-tour category — after #3 in 2025. The fleet is two Airbus AS350 B2 helicopters (six passengers, panoramic side windows) and one Bell 407, departing from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport (JRB) and Essex County Airport (CDW, Caldwell NJ). Charm is one of the few NYC operators with no 4-passenger minimum on its Grand Tour — couples can fly without being combined with other guests. The operator is a member of Vertical Aviation International (VAI) and the Eastern Region Helicopter Council (ERHC) and was named to the Inc. 5000 list in 2023 for its growth.

Fleet
Two Airbus AS350 B2 and one Bell 407 — chosen for panoramic visibility and short turnaround.
Airbus AS350 B2
6 seats
Six passengers, panoramic side windows and a glass nose — the classic French sightseeing helicopter. Used by NYPD and FDNY for the same reason: visibility from every seat.
Bell 407
6 seats
Six passengers, faster cruise speed than the AS350. The workhorse for Charm's longer Empire Tour and the Fall Foliage flights from Caldwell.
Frequently asked questions
Does Charm Aviation include the heliport fee in the booking price?
No. Charm collects the $40 Downtown Manhattan Heliport facility fee per person at check-in. Tours from Essex County Airport (CDW, Caldwell NJ) — including the Night Lights and Fall Foliage flights — do not have this fee.
Does Charm require a minimum number of passengers?
No. Charm's Empire Tour (25–30 min) is one of the few NYC long-haul tours without a 4-passenger minimum — couples and solo travellers can book and the flight departs as scheduled, no combining with strangers, no rescheduling. This is a deliberate operational choice and a reason readers favour Charm over Zip Aviation for the longer routes.
What is the USA Today 10Best award and how is it judged?
USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards are voted by the public over a four-week nomination and voting window each year. A panel of travel experts picks an initial 20 nominees per category, and readers then rank them into a Top 10. Charm Aviation's verified placements: #4 in the helicopter-tour category in 2026 and #3 in 2025. The award is a marketing signal rather than an operational audit (unlike TOPS or WYVERN), but it reflects sustained customer preference at the top end of the field.
Can I fly Charm on a Sunday?
Yes — but only from Essex County Airport (Caldwell, NJ), not from Downtown Manhattan. The Manhattan heliport is closed on Sundays for sightseeing (FAA noise-abatement). Charm's Sunday operations cover the Night Lights and Fall Foliage routes from Caldwell. Caldwell is about 50–70 minutes by car from Midtown Manhattan with free on-site parking.
